3. The Governance Accelerator/accelerator

Skipping Phases

How to legally skip steps without hiding risk.

Skipping Phases

The Accelerator is configurable. You may skip stages, but every skip is a risk decision that must be owned.

When to Skip

  • Skip POC: If feasibility is trivially known (e.g., standard CRUD on existing stack).
  • Skip Pilot: If the domain is low-risk and MVP is inherently testable.
  • Skip MVP: Rarely allowed. Only for internal tools with ultra-small user bases.

Conditions for Legal Skipping

  1. Rationale must be documented in the Scope Charter.
  2. Sponsor and Scope Lead must sign off.
  3. Engineering Lead must agree the risk is manageable.

Skipping is not a shortcut. It is a transfer of risk.
