Cookie Policy
What GovernanceOS stores in your browser, and why.
GovernanceOS does not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and does not load advertising or analytics scripts. We do not set cookies of our own. The service keeps a small amount of data in your browser's local storage, which it needs to keep you signed in and to remember choices you make in the interface.
1. Local Storage Set by GovernanceOS
| Name | Purpose | Type | Kept until |
|---|---|---|---|
governanceos_user | Keeps you signed in: your session tokens, user and workspace ids, name, email address, plan, AI settings and dismissed onboarding cards | Strictly necessary | You sign out or delete your account |
gov-theme | Remembers the light or dark theme you chose | Preference you set | You switch back to the system theme or clear your browser data |
gos.rail | Remembers whether you collapsed the app's side navigation | Preference you set | You clear your browser data |
govos.ai.lastCost.* | The token count of your last AI draft of each kind, to show what the next one may cost | Functional | You clear your browser data |
hatstack_user | An older name for governanceos_user. Moved to the new name and removed the first time you visit. | Strictly necessary | Removed on your next visit |
2. Paddle (Billing)
Our billing provider Paddle provides the checkout. Its script, Paddle.js, loads only on the Plan & Billing page in Settings and when you open a payment link Paddle sent you. Paddle may set its own cookies to run the checkout and prevent fraud; they are described in Paddle's own cookie policy. On every other page, nothing is loaded from Paddle.
3. Hosting
The web application is served by Vercel and our services run on Microsoft Azure. These providers process request data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and requests you make (see sub-processors).
4. Managing Browser Storage
Signing out removes your session from local storage. You can remove everything listed above at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings; you will then need to sign in again, and your theme and navigation choices return to their defaults.
